How to Care for Your Vintage Jeans

Everyone has that one favourite pair of jeans.  The pair that we won't know what to do the day they rip. The pair that we’ll wear 5 times per week while the other ones sit at the bottom of our closets. Including, the pair that you just discovered that fit in all the right places.

A little love goes a long way. By taking care of your favourite pair, they'll last longer. Keep reading to discover our best tips on how to care for your jeans.

How do you wash your denim?  Do you put them in the wash? Do you turn them inside out before? Do you put them in the freezer? Do you wash them at all?

Here are our top three ways we recommend washing your denim when they need a little refresher.

1. Hand Washing

  • First, turn your jeans inside out
  • Using warm or cold water, fill up your tub or container and add a little bit of mild detergent
  • Put your jeans in the tub and let them soak for no longer than 1 hour. Pro tip: make sure the tag isn't submerged in the water, so it doesn't get ruined.
  • Squeeze out the water and air dry, don’t put them in the dryer
After you wash your jeans,  they might feel a little crispy because of the 100% cotton. After a few wears, they’ll soften up and feel better than ever.

2. Machine Washing

Sometimes, there isn’t enough time to hand wash, so we recommend putting your jeans on either a cold handwash cycle or quick wash cycle that your machine has.

  • Turn jeans inside out
  • Wash with cold water
  • Add mild detergent
  • Air dry

Why do I need to turn my jeans inside out?

A pair of jeans that fit perfect and match your criteria are hard to come by. Turning your jeans inside out is important to keep your jeans from fading. In the wash, it's easy for clothes to rub against each other causing the colour to change especially if the water is hot.

Also, make sure you zip up and button the waist so nothing gets caught on them.

Drying Jeans

We recommend air drying your jeans and if you feel that you want them softer, you can put them in the dryer for a few minutes to soften them up.

Other Tips

  • Spot clean jeans so you don’t have to wash them right away
  • Wash with like colors
